lap swimming with one boob

    Hi everyone!

I've been a swimmer my whole life and enjoy swimming for exercise. I swim laps in a speedo which is relatively low cut - stops right where a regular cami would stop. I currently have implant reconstruction, and on the MX-implant side I find myself having to pull the swimsuit up sometimes, though not too often. The main problem right now is how much my strength is limited by my implant.

I've made the decision to deconstruct and I'm so excited! My surgery will be August 8.

I am imagining my strength to improve a lot once I am healed, but I am concerned about how my swimsuit will be able to stay up without a boob on one side. Anyone with experience in this or advice? Do you find you need a high-neck swimsuit?

ashell, I had my right implant removed due to a local recurrence, so I'm "half flat" now.

Since the implant removal I am pretty much limited to t-shirt necklines now, both in and out of the water. I wear a rash guard when swimming.

Also - and I don't want to be a bummer - but my muscle strength never returned, even after the implant was removed. That may just be me though.

This is a great thread on being "half flat," and that might give you some insights too. https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/82/topics/861492?page=7#idx_187

It's a very personal decision, best wishes to you!

Thank you for the reply 😊

I was researching high neck swimwear and there seems to be a decent amount of options.

My PS told me that my muscle strength might not return to how it was before, I guess what I mostly mean is not being able to feel an implant under my muscle anymore. That's the main thing that I feel hinders my swimming ability.

Thanks for sharing the thread, I'll check it out!

Yes, it's nice not having that "pec muscle sliding over my implant" feeling. For me that particular aspect is much better now, even though my strength isn't quite the same. I hope it goes well for you!
