Wondering if any of you ladies have been dealing with high blood sugar readings since starting chemo?? My blood sugars have been high since about a week into chemo and today, 3 weeks pfc, my fasting level was 377!!! Normal is 70-120. Omg the last thing i want is to become diabetic because of this!!! And I have been eating a low carb, high protein diet for the last couple months and it continued to go up.

Oh and my kidney function was significantly elevated today to.... oh yay!!

Feeling like today isn't going to be a good day mentally...grrrr!!!😢

For most of us elevated blood sugar levels are due to the steroids used with chemo to help control allergic reactions. The elevation is usually temporary and subsides once you are done. Kidney (and liver) function can be impacted as well because that is how the body filters and excretes the drugs, some specifically by the kidneys and some the liver - and why your MO should be watching with periodic CMP blood tests. Again, some impact is expected and typically temporary. Hang in there! Also, it may take some time after the end of chemo for your lab values to normalize - don’t panic if it takes more than a few months
