Some of us may be stage 1 now
With the new way of staging I am now stage 1B --- no longer a stage 2. So now I will have to go to the stage one group. (-: Go to Breast Cancer. orgs information on staging to determine if you are also now a stage one. I like being stage 1. It's really different and I bet many of us will drop to stage 1.

Thanks-I think this might be me!!! I like the lower level
-
Thats great news! What have I missed? Have the staging guidelines changed?
Thanks

Staging was redefined last year to include more information and consideration of treatment plan. Here is the link to the BCO page.

I asked my Onc about this and was told that Im still stage 2B that old dx do not change due to the new staging
It was worth a try
-
I’m always scared to ask this question. My second time was intermammary, right Hilar, chest wall node or mass (they couldn’t tell which) and two cervical (neck) ... I have heard both 3 and 4...
-
My onc told me that I’m now stage 2a instead of 2b. I guess that’s a little better
-
My staging didn't change, still 2a, oh well. I thought it was weird that the article said that er/PR positive is likely to be stage 1a. I mean, I had a 2.1 mm node ER PR positive with a clear mammogram a year earlier, so it can still spread pretty darn fast. I wonder where they got that statement from.

Thanks for the tip!
I looked just out of curiosity, and I am shocked that my cancer now would "likely be classified as stage I"
-
Some of us get worse.....TNBC took my stage 2 B to a Stage 3 C....
Glad that wasn't in my head during treatment....

I wonder how restaging works. I had neoadjuvant chemo and therefore no definitive pathology report. Now that chemo is done, I'll have surgery soon and will get more details. My BS originally said I was "between stage 2 and 3", but would restage after chemo and surgery.
-
My BS staged my tumor as 2a but my MO said he staged me wrong. Should be 1b.

edwards750 --- the same thing happened to me. This is very new and is gong to be confusing to a lot of people. A couple of months ago this site had both staging methods listed --- now they just have the new staging method listed. I wonder if BC.org could add the new and old staging to our bio's so that people will know really what stage everyone was or is.
-
I looked mine up and will stay the same stage , but I think that's an improvement and better expresses some of the risks. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
-
I was diagnosis with stage 2b and I'm now considered stage 1. That's how great our treatment is. It's long but great prognosis . Praise God!
-
I just read this and of course don't understand if my stage has changed. I'm a T2N1Mi. Micro met found in 1 sentinel node, no auxiliary nodes were removed and tested. Other stats are in my signature.

Ctmbsikia
Can you tell me how they diagnosed the LCIS in your right breast? I didn't think they could see LCIS with imaging. Did they diagnosis it with imaging or another way?
You can search on the Breast Cancer.org website for the new staging guidelines - I have read the new staging is effective for those diagnosed in 2018 and after.

Hi jessie-
That's right I do recall reading that now about the staging. Thank you
My mammo on my right showed an oval asymmetry on the outer quadrant of that breast. After consulting with BS she ordered a biopsy to be sure since I have dense breasts, She felt it was probably benign. The day I went in for the biopsy the Dr. there had read my imaging and she is the one who said to me she felt it could be LCIS and asked if I would do another biopsy. I had 2 done in 1 day. The 1st spot resulted in fibroadenoma, and the MRI guided biopsy result was LCIS. Then, BS to be triple sure nothing was going on in this mass also did an excision of more tissue at my surgery for the left. This also resulted in LCIS. Pathology on my left tumor was a mix of ductal with lobular features. DCIS on left side found 2mm from anterior margin. Sort of weird I had all sorts of things going on in both. This was my 1st mammogram ever and there was nothing to compare to, so good to know I did get a full work up.
A biopsy or surgical excision I believe is the only way to correctly diagnose. How about you? Will you be taking an AI or Tamoxifen?
-
ctmbsikia -- I don't know, but probably yes. The doctor has already prescribed an AI. I just hate pills and my onco score was just 6% recurrence with an AI -- which means my recurrence would be 9% without AI. I guess I'm going to have to, but sure hate it. Guess someday I'll try one of those little pills.

I believe these are current. Please let me know if incorrect and I will certainly delete this post.
The 1st link is a calculator (Easy-my speed). The 2nd link is for your reading pleasure for those of you who delve into this stuff. It is interesting, and as I have learned from this site, stuff is ever changing............
It seems my clinical prognostic stage is a 2A, and my pathological prognostic stage is a 1B. It is the MO who does the staging and I was right on the cusp of this change, so I can only summarize that she was not up to date when she did my staging. Doesn't make much difference, early stage and a favorable prognosis is good news, and nothing I've read here would change any treatment (like not taking the AI!). Regarding my node involvement I was .1 tenth of 1 tiny mm away from being classified as negative. My path reads 0.3mm focus.
