I used the Penguin cold caps for five months. I had mixed results. My hair thinned out about 60%, but I did not go bald. It could be because my hair is so frizzy and thick that it doesn't lie against my head like a straight-haired person, creating a buffer. Cold Caps are one of those things that you have to consider a few options before you go try them. 1) They cost me, after a monthly stipend by the Hair to Stay organization, $250 a month. 2) You may not keep all of your hair, or you may. It's a crapshoot. 3) They are highly labor intensive. You will be rather weakened and will need a friend or loved one to keep putting a new one on you every half hour for a period of 8-9 hours. Plus, you must buy dry ice every week if you do the four cap method. 4) They are highly uncomfortable. The moment you put one of those minus 38 degree caps on, your head feels like it's about to explode in the worst ice cream headache ever. It goes away after a few minutes and is best if you rest your head and use a hot pack on your hands to diffuse the entire feeling.
