Starting Chemo June 2019

I haven’t seen a post yet for anyone starting in June. My first infusion is June 4th. I’ll have 4 rounds of AC followed by 4 Taxol. Total 8 rounds spread one every other week. Had my port put in this past Friday and I grossly underestimated how sore I would be (and what a pain in the literal neck it is).

Hope to connect with others on this unexpected journey.

Hi Rissy- sorry you have to deal with this like the rest of us. If you haven't yet look at some of the other boards for people who have already started and possibly finished there is alot of good information and the ladies are wonderful sources of information and support.

Best of luck on your journey!!

Hi tyrone - so we have the same schedule.  I'm sorry we are in this boat but glad we can hopefully support each other.  I had my port put in last month since I needed one more excision anyway to get clean margins.  I'm currently waiting on a call back from my oncologist because I now have an infection by the port site (and under the skin along the tubing which goes into my neck).  My surgeon started me on antibiotics and hoping we don't push everything out.  I just want this to start already! is your port going in your chest?  My surgeon puts her ports by the armpit and the tubes go into the jugular vein in the neck.  I was not prepared for that location.

Hi Rissy - Teamortiz started a June starting chemo thread. There are about theee of us there. I wonder if the mods here can combine the two. MountainMia (from the May group) has been posting chemo tips on there as well. Welcome

Hi Rissy! My port is going in my chest which sounds weird enough, but yours sounds super trippy. This is all so nuts!

dogmomrunner - I didn’t realize that. I started this post a while back but no one joined in so I figured maybe there were no June starters. Guess the other post was started laterand didn’t notice mine.

Tyrone - what are you planning to do about your hair? That’s my biggest concern. Like take control and shave my head before it starts falling out? It’s still pretty long now

There is another June chemo thread someone started. Do you want to move over there so we can all communicate?

Rissy - no problem. It would be great if they could just combine the two. It looks like I will be starting the same day as Tyrone but with just Taxol and Herceptin. My port is similar to yours Rissy. Port near the armpit and then the smaller incision at the jugular. They used mine to draw blood and it was a bit weird.

I'll pop in over here from the other June thread :) Hopefully the mods can combine the two so things don't get confusing! I have no idea how to contact them to ask...

I start TC this afternoon. I'm a bundle of nerves, not worrying about how it will go but just wanting it over with. I did not get a port, my MO said they would try IV delivery first since I only go every 3 weeks and will only consider a port if I have any complications during the first round. She didn't seem to think it was necessary for me, and I agreed. We'll see how it goes, though.

Have a great day everyone! I'll try to jump back in once I'm home & settled to share how it went today.
