Mom recently diagnosed
Hi everyone,
My Mom was just diagnosed with Breast cancer. I don't know all the details as she just found out today. She had a biopsy and the doctors told her that's she's probably had it one to two years. Obviously a big shock that she's had it for so long. I've got a couple questions that and I'm hoping someone can help me.
1. Does anyone have any recommendations for Breast cancer specialist in Seattle or the US?
2. Having it for one to two years... hope bad is it?
Thanks ,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I'm sorry you're mom has this diagnosis! She's lucky to have you on her side and being proactive. One or two years isn't bad, but it depends on the pathology report since that will help determine how aggressive it is. There are many kinds of breast cancer and stage is more important than size. For example, I had stage 1 cancer. My tumor was 1.2 centimeters, hormone positive, grade one. The doctor said I had it at least 5 years.if it had been more aggressive it probably would have been found in an earlier mammogram. My colon cancer with stage 3B because of the size of the tumor but still only grade one. My colon surgeon said I had it between 10 and 15 years before diagnosis.her treatment plan will depend upon what the pathology shows. The worst part of this is waiting for results. Once her doctors come up with a treatment plan, she will feel back in control and it will get a little bit easier. I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for hospitals around you but I'm sure someone on this site will chime in.

Hi Ryan,
I was on vacation and sitting on the beach when I got a call telling me I had breast cancer. The 2-3 weeks following that we’re scary because there are many many unknowns that need to be found out from different tests. My doctor told me that my cancer could have started 10 years prior but I was still Stage 1 and I just celebrated 9 years cancer free.
Breast cancer has treatments, they just need to know what kind and stage it is to treat it.
How was her cancer found?

Welcome, Ryanseattle. We're so sorry to hear of your mom's diagnosis, we know that it can be shocking and hard to process. The first days and weeks will be overwhelming, but this community is here to support you and your mom through this! Once you have more information, as some of the other members have mentioned, there will be a plan in place and things will start to feel more doable. Take it one day at a time!
