Palpable Lump in Left Breast not Showing up on any Imaging

I have a family history of breast cancer on both sides of my family, so when I found a lump in my left breast I was on the phone making an appointment the very next day. This was 1 week ago. Today and had a Mammogram and Ultra Sound but both showed nothing. The technicians both felt it but saw nothing on the Ultra Sound or Mammo. The response I got felt very much like a brush off, with a just follow up with your doctor or Breast Specialist. Since my insurance does not require Referrals, I made an appointment straight away, with the specialist.

At first I was thinking well it cannot be anything bad if it does not show up on imaging, but I have this nagging feeling that is not true. I do have my follow up in just a few days, but I am still freaking out. I thought after today I would be more at ease, but I am not. Is there anything that can be shared with me to help lessen my worry?

Given your history, you might be able to convince them to give you an MRI. Those sometimes give false positives, but it might ease your concerns to have a more rigorous test.
