Hi

Hope all OK today. And good luck to anyone having procedures today.

MY QUESTION:

Anyone post surgery still got a seroma?

Thanks, I had surgery 8 weeks ago and drained once 3 weeks ago size of a hot water bottle, and now have one large handful size very tight and uncomfortable, seeing surgeon next week about it.

Interested to see if others do.

Thanks

Eliza

    Hi Eliza

I had seroma that required assisted drainage four times. Very unpleasant but it the body trying to cope with surgical intervention. For me it was time and comfort. I was undertaking radiation and the seroma was causing issues with the mapping and uncomfortable. I had breasts sort of! Anyway it took radiography with a needle to get the seroma depleted so the radiation was still accurate. Not to mention the pressure of the fluid buildup. If you are uncomfortable make sure they take the fluid out asap.

Recently I have have developed skin Mets that required a surgical biopsy for confirmation of cancer typeand from that procedure the wound has not healed completely because my body is reacting and exuding fluid. If they seal the wound I will get another seroma. So caught between seroma and healing wound I desperately want to heal.

It is amazing what can be done for us but we can’t forget it comes at a cost.

    Good luck.

    Xx

I had surgery march 15, 2018; got my drains removed after 2 1/2 weeks and then the seroma started. It filled up and was drained 4 times over a period of around 6 weeks. at that point my surgeon reinserted a smaller but similar drain for another 3 weeks. That did the trick. it drove me crazy to watch it fill up each time it was drained, but it was just something that had to be given time and some assistance to heal itself.

it's very frustrating! i understand what you are going through and hope it resolves for you very soon.
