hi all, I’m 51 years old and recently diagnosed with IDC. I had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy 3 weeks ago. First week was fine, 2nd week started to get shooting pains and a lot of discomfort particularly where they took out nodes. All normal and to be expected from what I read. My issue now is I think I may have an infection however apart from redness, swelling and itchy skin I don’t have a fever or discharge but it’s still very uncomfortable and painful. I saw my breast surgeon 3 days ago and have been told I need a 2nd op as didn’t get clear margins. Has put me on antibiotics as a precaution but didn’t think I had an infection but it seems to have gotten worse since I saw her. Maybe this is all part of the healing process but would love to hear of other women’s experiences! Good news is nothing showed in the 3 lymph nodes they took out so something positive for a change!

fifi, - I'm sorry you are dealing with all of this. Is the area warm/hot when you touch it? Take your temperature, too. (Morning temps are usually lower than later in the day, though.) If ANY doubt, call your dr. Better to err on the side of caution re a possible infection!

    Wonderful that nodes are clear!!

    WIshing you a speedy recovery!

Any chance of this being an allergy? I discovered unfortunate allergies to surgical prep and dermabond after my surgery.
