Hello
I'm 36 and was told last week they saw an abnomality on my mamo. It was my 3rd mamo, last one was 15 months ago. They did a repeat mamo and ultrasound. They saw a 1cm somethin or other and said birads? 4. I've been sent to a clinic for another ultrasound and possibly biopsy
I have a few questions, if anyone can help. I'm a bit scared to look online to much atm.
-is 1cm considered large? To me it seems small.
-they only saw one spot, is that reassuring in any way?
-my appt is set for 2 weeks away, is that a normal amount of time to wait? Do things spread that fast if it's bad news ?
- They said possiable biopsy, ...is that just a way to cause less anxiety and they will do it regardless?
- last and I know this one cant be answered well but I'm feeling very guilty, I smoked for years and haven't always taken care of myself well..can this just happened cause I feel like I brought this on and somehow that feels so much worse.
I know these are silly questions! But they are what I'm thinking. Hopefully it's all for nothing. Did I mention I'm a severely anxious person ?
Also, I've been reading some of your stories on site, I wish you all the best, so very brave and helpful to one another.

I can't answer all of your questions but here are a few thoughts. 2 cm is the cutoff for some treatment decisions, so yes, 1 cm is good! And one spot only is good--improves the probability you could opt for a lumpectomy if it comes to that. Things do not typically spread that fast, although two weeks seems a *little* long to me. It probably depends on where you live and the availability of local breast surgeons. I do think you'll have a biopsy--that's the only way to get a definitive answer as to what's going on. Re: smoking, you can only look forward. There is a "stop smoking" thread here on BCO. Maybe this will spur a change in future?

Jenny1982, welcome to Breastcancer.org! We know waiting for results is always hard, and this great community is here to help you!
As you said you are a "severely anxious person", we thought the Topic: Anxiety from our Not Diagnosed But Worried forum, could be of help. There you can find some good strategies to help you deal with the stress that comes with all this, tests results, next appointments, information from your medical team and more.
Good luck with further test, and please let us know how it all goes!
Best wishes,

Hello
So today I went to the breast assessment unit. I was told by the clinic that sent me they would do a ultrasound guided biopsy. When I arrived they did an ultrasound and mentioned the last clinic hadn't seen my lump on ultrasound.. so not sure why the guided biopsy was mentioned. Anyway, they did an ultrasound and seemed like they could not see well enough to biopsy. They sent me for 2 more mamo views. The radiologist came in and spoke to me, it was all a bit confusing but he said they can see something but can't see something and are waiting 6 months to do a repeat mamo. I dont understand any of it but he seemed to think it was nothing to worry about but will keep an eye on it.
Does this sound, errr, normal ?
Lump was 1cm* on mamo
