Recommended Boston doctors post cancer?
Hi all- I just moved to Boston from the UK, and was diagnosed with BC in 2017 (chemo, surgery, radiotherapy), finally finishing Herceptin injections May 2018. I have some ongoing issues related to treatment, not least of which is the menopause and bone pain, and I am looking to find a good primary care physician who will be able to link me to good care if I do have a recurrence but will also help with prevention and scans when needed. I think I have a good care plan with work. I am used to the NHS, and have little experience in the US - advice would be most welcome! Sarah x

Im being treated at Mass General here in Boston. My surgeon Dr Smith is excellent, she got clean margins and if it weren't for the scar you'd never know I even had a lumpectomy, I know size and location also hepled play the part. My oncologist is also great and has been very supportive. Id def recommend them!

Thank you Toyamjj - I wish you very well in the treatment, and thanks for the recommendation!

Please let us know what, if anything, we can do to support you!

I wish I had a good lead, but my GPdoc isn't a public doc.Your insurance company might offer a list of approved doctors to start with. There are some rating services like Healthgrades to help you identify good docs. Boston Magazine just released a list of Top Doctors that might be helpful. There's also a Boston-area topic in the community/support groups section where you can read about some local bc doctors.
MGH and Dana Farber are popular hospitals for bc treatment (there are quite a few options in this city). I went to MGH for bc treatment and checkups, and they accept many types of insurance.

Thank you Alto - I have found now a female physician linked to Beth Israeil (Mass Gen was not taking new patients, or at least the practice I called!), so have a consultation with her tomorrow, I will keep you posted!

Another great hospital. I hope it was a good appointment

Yes, she gave me a full 30 mins, but did seem a bit rushed off of her feet! She has referred me for a mammogram, and a pap smear in the next few weeks, so I was very pleased that they took a full history. They did ask if I could bring my previous mammogram images, which I am checking whether I can from the UK. Thanks Alto - glad to have found you on here - scanxiety is setting in again as I have had some rib pain.

That rib pain is so obnoxious. For me it's hard to tell whether it's something to be concerned about, and or just normal surgery after-aches. No scans for a few more months for me.
