Luminal B with mets

My mom was recently diagnosed with de novo stage IV breast cancer with mets to (<4) bones. My understanding is that her tumor is luminal B: ER positive, PR positive but low, high Ki (23%).

I’ve read that luminal B cancer is relatively rare. Just wanted to hear the stories of those with this type of cancer

Hi bydand: Luminal Bs tend to be fast-growing (hence high Ki) and aggressive tumors. Fortunately, they tend to respond well to chemo. Many are associated with that low/no PR. I'm 18 mos out and currently on an aromatase inhibitor for another 3.5 years, at least.

Here's hoping your Mom has an easy time through treatment. She's lucky to have you.

No, I don't believe Luminal B is rare at all. Mine is Luminal B. Luminal A may be somewhat more prevalent in older women but B is not at all rare. For young women, Luminal B, HER2 and basal-like are more common (than Luminal A, for example) as young women tend to have more aggressive cancers. On the one side, Luminal B is known to be aggressive. On the other side, aggressive, fast growing cancers tend to be very responsive to treatment, many of which target fast-growing cells. Another key factor is location and bone only has the best prognosis.
