Question About Tamoxifen

Sorry for my ignorance but I really can't seem to find an answerto this question. Does Tamoxifen prevent a recurrence in the breasts only, or does it prevent distant recurrence(metastasis) as well? I know I've read a lot of places that it binds to estrogen receptors in the breast, but I don't recall reading about anything else. Thanks!
