Need know ASAP DIEP fat grafting always necessary
Getting close to signing on-board for DIEP. But first need to ascertain if DIEP always requires fat grafting to revise the breast for final touches? I am not crazy about doing fat grafting plus it would be nice not to have extra procedures as I am not picky picky about end results. Thanks a bunch, Racheal

I did the fat grafting on the 2nd procedure. I have to tell you I did not notice much difference, so much gets reabsorbed. My ps would like to do a touch up but the difference to me is negligible.

I had fat grafting about 5 months after DIEP along with fixing “dog ears”. Recovery was easier but still painful but it was worth it.

Hi guys,
Well I'm doing fat grafting on a LUMP reconstruct tomorrow. I'm doing it instead of a flap. Fat grafting before radiation, then rads then fat grafting again after rads. FLAP was planned but I just couldn't, didn't want to take the time off mid-treatment for a FlAP recovery.
I hope it's not too painful, I won't take narcotics, hate that stuff. So it's tylenol and ice for me. No Ibuprofen even for 10 days he said. Full anesthesia on the fat graft and it's two hours long.
Doc says it 100% needle work. So less issues with having to restrict movement completely afterward as well as shorter recovery than the full FLAP. . I'm on an academic schedule and can't fall behind right any further right now.
It was a big LUMP. 4 cm. But not an MX nor a BMX so this might be completely different than
Anyway my platelets just came back HIGH, 510. Im almost 3 weeks from first and last chemo dose. I don't know. I guess they might cancel postpone, pushing surgery one week iDK, that or I'm fat grafting tomorrow. So no food after midnight!
So to summarize, it's late at night so my post is all over the place. To summarize, my FLAP is now a double FAT graft. I hope. I'm ok with Fat Graft. It's like what people do to plump up their lips right? Of course I've never had one.
We should start a recovering from Surgery April 2019 (and watching Netflix or HBO) thread. And we can talk about TV instead of cancer. Or both really. We can talk about both.
Fracking out. Snore...

FrackingHat…Your lump was big, but I am glad they can fix it with lipofilling. That is something that's becoming very popular in more recent years, and I read people are having this done on a limited basis now in some places and that someday it likely be used as an viable option to make breast mounds. Yes, the lipofill is shorter recovery than the full FLAP, so I think and hope you do very well with it.

i did NOT have any fat added at stage 2. As a matter of fact, i had some liposuction to remove excess fat during stage 2. My plastic surgeon said it’s easier to remove than to add.
So no, adding fat after the original DIEP is not always done.

I think in the early to id 2000s they did not do fat grafting. Pretty sure even so many nice looking breast outcomes back then. Fat grafting is something that I personally would love, but could not get since Ishigh grade intraductal bc.
