is there anyone on here who had a lumpectomy for Dcis and didn't have a recurrence? The rates don't seem to match the stories here. I'm an anxious person and just am questioning having the recommending lumpectomy

Thank you all!

Keepin mind the people who post here are a tiny subset of those who get breast cancer. (And in case my profile is confusing, I did not have a recurrence after DCIS. I had a new primary in the other breast.)

I’m so sorry you did and hope you are doing well. I guess that’s what I mean, everyone here With a lumpectomy seems to get it again.... yet that’s the protocol.

    Best wishes to you!

    Hi!

Five years cancer free end of June - lumpectomy, radiation, Arimidex (going off in June).  So far, no reoccurrence.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Cutie all I can say is there seems to be research suggesting that staying on the AI longer provides a measurable benefit to some patients. A good friend was diagnosed last summer and was told seven years. I’m only a few months in so I figure we’ll see what the current thinking is in five years, but I’m fully expecting to be told another 2-5 years.

is there a link to a predictor to the return of Dcis or invasive cancer? I guess I am having a hard time understanding why, if Dcis formed once (in a papilloma for me), why would it not form again... especially in the untreated breast?

Also, with the 6 month check ups, if it were too return in a form, would it theoretically be low stage?

    Thanks!
