I’m finally posting. Needing so advice as to what to do. For over a month I’ve had a pinkish purplish spot on my left breast. It’s been there unchanged for a month now. I have had green discharge and a little bit of crust on my left nipple. And lots of discomfort and pain off and on this month only in the left. Sometimes. It itches badly. Sometimes. Not. Sometimes it painful to the touch or to lay on my left side sometimes not. The inconsistency is what’s throwing me off. Both grandmothers had bc. Do not know about my mom. She never went to the dr. I just turned 40 this year. I’m afraid to go get it checked out. Because what if it’s something. Or nothing.

Thanks for your time. And blessings to you

What if it's something and it gets much worse because you DIDN'T go to a doctor until it's too late? Make that appointment now.

Hi llamb, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry you're here and worrying, but we're really glad you've found us.

Unfortunately, no one here can tell you what's going on. We always recommend taking any breast concerns to your doctor for a full evaluation. Yes, it could be something, and it could be nothing -- but you won't have any peace of mind until you know. So, please, call your doctor and set up an appointment so you can get to the bottom of things and start feeling better.

Please keep us posted with what you find out!

Even if it's not something serious like cancer (and hopefully it's not) it's still something that is causing you discomfort and pain. That is worthy of being taken to a doctor to figure it out and address it. Maybe thinking about it that way will help you make the appointment and go.

I think denial and avoidance are very normal human coping strategies. But you are here asking us and I think that means you're ready to push yourself to the next step of taking care of yourself. We are cheering you on :)

I think either ob/gyn or dermatologist would be my first choice, or primary care doctor is fine if your insurance requires referrals. If you already have any one of these that you like and trust, just go to them. Or whoever you can get into see at your earliest convenience, or whoever comes recommended by a friend. Any of them should be able to do an initial evaluation and either recommend treatment or refer you to whatever other specialist or screening they think is most appropriate.
