Diagnostic vs. Screening Mammo after DCIS

I had a mastectomy after a diagnosis of DCIS on left breast. My oncologist said that since all came back clear, I did not need any further treatment and to just have the right breast mammo as usual, once a year, and a breast surgeon check the left breast, also once a year. He also said I no longer needed to see him

I went to an imaging facility to get the right breast mammo, and the technician said I needed a scrip for a diagnostic mammo because it’s the first mammo since the DCIS diagnosis.

Is anyone familiar with this? It seems odd that my oncologist didn’t mention that, yet the tech insisted.

Don't you need a referral for every mammogram? Regardless of type? The referring physician will specify what kind. Or did I misunderstand the question?

I got the referral from my primary physician for a screening mammo. Apparently a diagnosis mammo needs to specifically say that

FYI........I just spoke with my oncologist’s office, and the nurse said a diagnostic mammo is preferred and I should ask my primary care md for it.
