OK is Soy in everything now?

I thought I would vent just a little bit about how much soy is in our basic food supply. My MO directed me to avoid soy as much as possible as my cancer was ER/PR receptive. So as I read product labels judiciously I have decided that I need to make pretty much everything from scratch. I have found one bread brand that doesn't contain soy lecithin (and not sure that the lecithin truly is an issue). But yesterday I looked at the mayonnaise and there it was - Soybean oil was the first ingredient. Good grief.

Yes it is but tiny amounts. My onc said no tofu, soy milk or those foods in heavy concentrate. Your suppressor should clean up the rest . Try not to stress too much or you'll lose your mental health and good times you have now

Rah- Lol, I Had to join this rant. My 3 year old has a soy allergy and yes, it’s in Everything! We do make lots from scratch. But like Jo said, small amounts shouldn’t be an issue as far as bc goes. But I’ve heard exactly the opposite- that Whole soybean products are ok, not soybean derivatives. If you want suggestions, I know which brands of things like mayo are soy free. But don’t make yourself crazy over it!

I was looking for Tumeric supplements yesterday and each bottle that I picked up contained soy. Kind of defeats the purpose of taking this in hopes of having a lower recurrence chance. For the last 20 years I have eaten so many non-meat products such as Boca Burgers and Morning Star Farms products. All of them contain soy but since my diagnosis I have found Quorn non-meat, soy-free products at Kroger. They are pretty tasty.

I am allergic to soybean oil and yes it is in many products. Add in lactose and gluten intolerance and I have to scrutinize every food label. However, soy lecithin doesn’t seem to bother me. There are many gluten, dairy, and soy free products in the health food section of the grocery store. Even Walmart has some. I usually buy the ones that are on sale as they can be very expensive.

I honestly wouldn't worry about the tiny amount in things like that...for purposes of being ER/PR positive. If you had an allergy maybe. But when they say to limit soy, they mean like soy supplements or huge amounts of tofu or soybeans. And not to mention, the need to avoid is pretty controversial. Many oncologists say not to avoid it...my oncologist didn't say to avoid it, but my surgeon did. So I just don't munch on tofu, lol.

I became allergic to soy 3 years ago and that was a life changing experience die that soy is in everything. Is truly horrible how everything has some type of soy and soy itself have so many words that mean soy.

Am soy free die to allergies and took time to find everything I needed to live with it.
