Hi All,

I am due to have removal of my milk duct on Tuesday, I started with clear fluid leaking from my left nipple its gone on for quite a while. I was ref to breast clinic were I had ultra sound and biopsy's, my ultra sound showed cysts but the Dr advised me this is purely an incidental finding and the problem is within my milk duct. My mum has just gone through breast cancer so its all a little raw still. I was wondering if anyone has had this surgery and what your experience was ? I am very anxious to see if I have DCIS once they test the tissue, my biopsy came back clear so even if it is in my milk duct we do know it has'nt gone much further. I have small boobs so the thought of them being deformed after surgery is daunting to me, so if anyone can share their experience with me and offer any help/advice/tips of what to expect that would be appreciated.

thanks

Kim

I had an excisional biopsy done by a general surgeon for dilated ducts a couple years after my first mammogram. There was no discharge but I kept getting called back for extra views so wanted the tissue looked at by a pathologist. It was benign. I was a small cup size and the procedure did not leave any “dent" or other deformity.

The scar was invisible being around the areola but that nipple did loose sensitivity. A decade prior, I had a case of mastitis which may have contributed to the situation.

With close family history of cancer, have you thought about genetic counseling?

My first biopsy was a duct excision. I had small breasts as well and honestly, it healed really well. There really wasn't much deformity at all and I experienced no problems with my nipple afterwards.

    Hope that helps !
