Hi,

I have my first mammogram tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Is it painful? I feel like I’ve heard that before. All they told me was not to wear deodorant and to wear comfy clothes. I’m coming from work... what does comfy clothes mean? Easy to undress?

I have an US after. I have had one of those before.

My anxiety is rough... not eating, not sleeping.

The mammogram was not painful at least for me.  There was a lot of squeezing and different paddles were used to get good images.  I can describe it as awkward more than anything just because of the positioning.  Of course everyone has a different experience but it wasn't bad at all for me.  I can feel your anxiety because I have become very anxious as well.  The one thing I can tell you is that you are probably anxious and scared about the results and this is making you panic about the procedure as well.  Also one thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the tech leaves the room to ask the radiologist if he needs more images.  Don't panic if that happens to you.  It doesn't always mean that they found something but most likely they want to make sure that they captured everything.

you’ll go into a room with the person taking the pictures. You’ll take your shirt and bra off. There will be a machine and on ours a wall of plastic things that help them get pictures. The person will tell you how to stand, when to hold your breath, and will help position your breast (which to me is the weirdest part). They will take a few pictures. That’s it. You’ll probably then be sent to a waiting room for your US or go straight to it
