Proton vs Photon Radiation for Breast Caner Treatment

Hi Everyone,

I finished proton radiation treatment June 14, 2018. My first goal after treatment was to help patients learn about proton radiation therapy vs photon therapy-especially for left sided breast cancer. When I was diagnosed I never heard of proton radiation. My doctor sent me to photon therapy treatment and staging. But then I met someone who knew the people at the Maryland Proton Radiation Center and my world changed overnight.

I recently posted about the website I created called protonradiatonbuddy . I created this as I had such a hard time getting United Healthcare to approve my treatments.(they finally did on my radiation oncologist doctors third appeal with a nine page case study) One of my doctors recommended reaching out to see if other breast cancer patients had United Healthcare and were they approved. I came to breastcancer.org site last year and couldn't find many people to talk to about it so I created my site. I received treatment at the Maryland Proton Radiation Center and they were AMAZING! I'm not here to endorse or prescribe the treatment, but rather just share my story as they've done on the Maryland Proton Radiation site as well.
