Just got diagnosed with lymphedema
Hi new to this whole diagnosis. Had my axillary lymph node dissection last October along with a lymph bypass surgery that was supposed to help me not get lymphedema. Well that didn't go so well as of Wednesday of this week I was diagnosed with it. So I have a few questions my arm and hand feel like there's a lot of inflammation and that kind of pain you know bone achy pain is that typical? And can any of you send me ideas of where to buy extra compression sleeves thanks in advance.

oh and one more question can you get lymphedema in the breast area if you have implants? Thanks again

HI Deb,
We're so very sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with lymphedema, but you've come to the right forum. The members here are very knowledgeable and helpful on all things having to do with this unfortunate side effect.
While you wait for the ever-helpful responses from others here, we wanted to point you to the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Lymphedema, which offers lots of great information about where lymphedema can occur, how to reduce flare-ups, and resources for compression sleeves and other garments.
We hope this helps and that you get relief soon!

I, too was just diagnosed a few hours ago. I would think that having implants would not stop you from getting lymphedema in your breast or trunk. Can your oncologist refer you to a lymphedema specialist for compression garments?

So sorry Debsmisto! The ladies here are wonderful and offer great support so you're asking in the right place.
Would you mind me asking about your bypass? Were you part of a trial? Did you get several bypasses all over your arm? Could you share who your surgeon is? Sorry about all the Q’s, I'm scheduling LVA surgery and interested in your results
As for garments, I use what was recommended by my LE therapist (custom Elvarex glove, juzo sleeves). Trying to change my night time sleeve, though, bc the one I have (Juxtafit) is not a good fit for me (too uncomfortable and a total nightmare to get on!). Thinking maybe a Tribute? Will make a post now asking...
