Oncotype/ Prosigna/ Mammaprint testing

Hi,

I have just been treated with lumpectomy surgery for a 7mm IDC. I had sentinel nodes removed also which have come back clear and I am now uncertain as to whether to have chemotherapy, or radiation only and hormone therapy. I am interested to hear if anyone else has had Gene testing done on their tumour samples and if it was helpful in deciding whether or not to have chemotherapy. My tumour is hormone positive.

Thank you so much everyone.

Yes, I had a positive sentinel node. My tumor cells were sent out for the mammaprint test. The results of that made my oncologist decide to not give me chemo, despite the positive node.

My doctors used the oncotype test. I think there is a minimum tumor size, I don't know about mammaprint.

My MO said that for me, diagnosed at 39, if I had had any positive nodes, she would not have sent for oncotype but would have proceeded straight to chemotherapy. With negative nodes, she still wanted to send for oncotype just in case it was a stealth aggressive cancer.

I think doctors have different approaches for when to send for testing or not.

I like the idea of more data rather than less, so if your insurance would cover it and your tumor size is big enough, I would want some testing before making the chemo decision.

(This is assuming your tumor was HER2-, for HER2+ I think there is always some form of chemo)

you didn't mention your er/pr status and HER. With recent studies those statuses really drive alot of decision making about chemo. Mine tumor was 7mm, node positive and we sent for mammaprint which came back low risk so no chemo for me bc of my er/or positive, HER-. I did have a mx bc of the location of my tumor being do near my nipple. Radiation bc of the positive node but that's being extra precautionary bc of my mx and mammaprint score. Tamoxifen on board as well. The hormone, HER status is really driving treatment in early stage BC

Tumour also very close to the nipple, in fact I have had some of the nipple tissue removed on one side to ensure clear margins.
