medicare part D prescription plan recommendation?

Hi all, I will be 65 and able to get Medicare in May 2019, which will be good to no longer have my Cobra $900/month payment! It is very confusing what Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to sign up for. Since I have breast cancer diagnosis I want to choose a good plan, currently just completed treatment with chemo and radiation, but want a good plan in case medication is needed in the future. would like recommendations and any advice on a company for Part D that has a good formulary for breast cancer treatments in California please. I am also going to sign up for a Medicare supplemental plan, have been looking at AARP United Healthcare. Any other companies that you've used that have good coverage?

thank you! this is my first post to this forum, hope I did it correctly!

I've had AARP for 5 years and really like it. Several of my friends swear by it.

Is there a social worker at your cancer center that can help you wade through all of the plans? Definitely get a good one that covers things... we see a lot of patients that pick the cheaper plans, and then realize nothing is covered (when it is too late).

I tried calling my primary care doctor, my nurse navigator, my Oncologist office and they referred me to Oncology Financial Services Rep, but no one seems to know at my treatment facility which policy is best. So complicated and frustrating to have to blindly choose!

Hi Taurusgirl, I've been on Medicare for four years. I have SilverScript for my prescriptions and Mutual of Omaha for my Medicare supplement Plan G. I have been very satisfied with these companies. Mutual of Omaha has an online patient portal that keeps me informed after my claims. I think their customer service is very good too

Yes, I agree it is very complicated! My husband and I attended a free informational program at the local library explaining Medicare and supplements. It was presented by an insurance broker who did not endorse any plan. It was very helpful. Afterwards we "hired" (at no charge to us) the insurance broker. He came to our house and asked names of doctors, prescriptions, etc. After doing research he came back and recommended plans that he thought would be a good fit.

Does your library or community center host a program like that?

    Good luck to you.
