I did not have recon and I found the recovery was fairly easy - that is to say the first few months were easier than I could have ever anticipated. but the consequences of removing nodes(even just two) has been harder on me, physically. I would recommend joining the group flat and fabulous on facebook, or posting in the "living without reconstruction" area of this site for prosthesis advice. I have no clue but I know they can be heavy and women come up with all kinds of hacks or other ways to wear padding etc. I still have not sorted out a swimsuit for myself.

Just be sure after your surgery to have many zip up shirts... you won't be able to lift your arms up at least until the drains are out..... I would also recommend massaging your chest with castor oil, it has been the best for skin recovery. I also got some kinsesio tape on ebay, once you are about 1 month or 1.5 months, you can put that over your scar lines and it will help the skin heal, the scars heal flatly, and fade! Those two are my best two things to help accelerate healing and have a nice smooth chest.

Well my surgery is now tomorrow. Anxious...nervous...and just hoping nothing in lymph nodes, praying I won't need chemo and no dog ears. :) I will try and update you all as soon as possible!

Had my surgery Monday, all went well. They were unable to find the lymph nodes the dye didn't even make it over to them so they consider that good, if the dye can't get to them (due to my scar tissue etc) then the cancer can't either. (they obviously worded it a bit different than me so bear with me LOL) Anyway the other good thing was that my cancer was nearer to the chest bone than the other side by the nodes. They think it was early stage 1. I will get the final pathology results on Wednesday the 27th then I will know if I need chemo.

I have done this so far with relatively not much pain and haven't taken any pain meds at all not even tyelenol...except tylenol PM the night I got home to sleep.

I feel pretty good and think my scars look really good.
