I found a mass and I'm scared

A while back I posted here, thinking I may have IBC. The symptoms I was worried about went away and I thought I was fine. But several weeks ago I found a mass. It's deep in my breast and feels spongy in some places and hard in others. While I know many lumps are benign, this one is mainly hard, rough, and feels fixed (it's like hitting a brick wall inside my breast). My breast is also swollen and dimpled and everything I've read points to cancer. I also have armpit pain on and off and numbness in my hand on that side so I fear it's spreading.

My doctor said she couldn't feel anything (maybe because it's so deep), but made a clinic appointment anyway (on Wednesday). I'm just scared of what they'll find. I know if they find cancer I'll be upset with myself for not being more proactive.

Am I worrying over nothing? Could this be benign?

a lot of people who have cancer have no pain or indication that they have it. Stress can cause pain. Though a dimple is fairly alarming... but you have to take it step by step. Hopefully you get a mammogram/ultrasound soon and from that you can see if the radiologists are concerned or it warrants a biopsy. They should be able to give you an indication of the liklihood of malignancy then, but they need imaging first.. don't jump ahead of yourself.

I got the ultrasound yesterday and they said it was just normal tissue, no sign of malignancy. So relieved! Apparently my breast is tubular, which causes the different appearance and feel.

(And what I thought was dimpling wasn't, just slightly uneven skin.)

Thank you for your post, it helped while I was waiting.

Good news! And good information to have about your body. Hopefully knowing that will help you and your doctors take good care of you in the future.
