Path report: ductal or lobular, invasive or not invasive?

I had an FNA on Thursday and got the results the next day. The nurse called telling me the surgeon wanted to see me sooner rather than later. The report says nothing helpful except malignant adenocarcinoma. It does not stage it, grade it, say whether it is in situ or invasive or whether it is ductal or lobular. Did they give me the watered down report for patients? How could this path report possibly be helpful to the surgeon (?!?!?!) when it isn't helpful to me?

Anybody get a path report that just says malignant adenocarcima? What was your treatment? I had lumpectomy for DCIS and radiation therapy 10 years ago. Wondering what I am facing now. Will see surgeon on March 11th.

When I got the call with my initial results it was given to me by the nurse navigator at the breast center. All she could tell me was that cancer cells were present. I was given an appointment with the BS and she gave me a copy of my full path report from the biopsy. They might not have had the whole picture when they called. They might need to wait for further stains on the biopsy sample to determine the details. Waiting really does suck, and I am sorry you are going through a second diagnosis.

This last time I had the biopsy on a Tuesday, learned later that a preliminary path report was available on Wednesday, a more complete report on Thursday (although due to a snafu I didn’t get the results until Friday). A full path report takes time. Try to be patient.

Thank you Ingerp. I have another biopsy on another site tomorrow so will ask if there is a more detailed path report four days out. Thanks for writing!

No worries. As you know, the waiting is often the hardest part. Hang in there. :-)
