Anyone have avascular necrosis of the femur head? Latest MRI showed hip pain wasn't from new cancer but dying blood vessels that supply my hip bones

I did not personally have this condition but am acquainted with someone who required hip replacement surgery within a year of getting this diagnosis. At least it's not another site of metastatic disease for you...

The doctors thought I had progression because of pain. My only risk factor seems to be radiation or high cholesterol, but many will never know the cause. Thanks vinrph for your response.

If I'm not mistaken, some chemo drugs can affect bonest, i.e. Taxotere can cause jaw bone necrosis.

I was lucky enough not to have to take the chemo but I had 10 rad treatments last March and another 10 last month to my lower back and spine. The great news is that my MRI last week showed no progression and the treated tumors stable. I guess it's a trade off .

I had AVN in my knee (got replacement) pre BC DX. Orthopedist thought it was from Prednisone packs given for migraines. Now I have AVN in my big toe. No surgery plans.
