Doctor found a lump on friday...

I was in for a check up on friday. The doctor found a lump. 6 oclock on left breast, underneath. About "pea" size. I had a breast reduction in 2006 and have scar tissue in that area. She did say she thought it was scar tissue BUT she also said "this is what BC feels like!" I'm waiting for a call so I can get a mammogram. Could it really be scar tissue? I wish they would call with an appt! Help

scoops, we understand how scary this can be for you. Sounds like you are doing the right thing, getting a mammogram. So frustrating to have to wait! It's always the most difficult part with any health concern. Please keep us posted, and know we're all here for you!

It could be scar tissue! It probably is scar tissue. But... it could be cancer! Or... it could be something else that is neither scar tissue nor cancer!

This part, the waiting and not knowing, is hard and difficult. No one knows right now, not you and not the doctor. The follow up tests should help give more information. It's better to be safe than sorry. If it is scar tissue or something else benign, they can mark it in your medical file so they know for the future. If it is cancer, then your doctor found it nice and early and you can get the right follow up treatment.

Can you try to call them and nudge them? If you have the time and energy for it, sometimes a squeaky wheel gets the grease. Or you could see what other options there are in your area for a mammogram that you could schedule yourself.

Great, so glad you could get that on the calendar!

I actually had about 3 weeks between finding the lump and the mammogram. My doctor did not really seem concerned it was cancer and said she was just being cautious with the mammogram. Good thing she was! I went into the mammogram basically unworried..

The waiting time is tough on our heads, but it shouldn't make any difference at all in terms of the treatment/cancer.
