Itchy Skin..... Ugh!

So my surgery was almost two weeks ago. I’ve had one set of drains removed and hope to have the other set out Thursday. But the skin below my stitches and around where my drains are/were is red, splotchy and just plain itches! It’s not infected, just very irritated. I’ve been putting petroleum jelly on it to keep it moisturized, but man! This will drive a person mad! Any suggestions would be great!

coconut oil or if it's closed and completely healed mederma scar gel. It seals in moisture and help reduce scarring. Aquaphor is pretty good also.

I had allergic reactions after surgery, to the skin prep, then the glue, then the radiation lotion. The only thing that helped my itching was cold wet washcloths. I eventually had to get a steroid shot to calm it all down. But the washcloths can help even if very temporarily.

I had breast reduction surgery a month after my lumpectomy. I’m allergic to adhesives. So, the tape irritated. I had a prescription for clobetesol. It’s a strong steroid cream and if you use too much, it can thin your skin. But it was a lifesaver with the itching. Stops it immediately. Ask if it is a possibility for you. I used it during radiation, too. My RO was going to prescribe it anyway.
