Chemo toes!!

I am 18 months out from my last chemo. My two big toes are still yellow, thick and tender. Now the skin around the nail is growing while the nail is narrowing. I keep forgetting to mention this to my MO. Has anyone had this problem? How was it treated? Summer is coming and I want to wear sandals

Doubt MO will be helpful, try a podiatrist or a dermatologist for better answers. More in their line of expertise.

Yes. Both big toenails have been an issue. I spoke with the dermatologist to make sure there wasn't a fungal infection distorting the nail, there was neither infection nor fungus. Next, I had a pedicure so the nail would get a proper cut so as it grew, it would buckle less. I live in Florida, so I picked out non-flat colored polishes and kept it aired. Things were going well, then I wore boots because it was cold. I may have damaged the nailbed again on the left toe. Taxol Toe. Ugh.

I had trouble with mine too. They got infected and were so painful I could not wear socks or shoes, in desperation for relief I had them pulled. It was excruciating, even after being numbed, I don’t recommend it at all. The skin care group at my cancer center advised me to soak my toes for 5-10 minutes in a 50/50 vinager/water mix a few times a week, no problems since. Good luck.

You must always run things by your MO before going to another specialist including podiatrist. I am a retired Oncology RN and we told this to patients all the time. No teeth cleaning or toenails done unless cleared by MO while on active treatment. And I would think for a little while afterwards.

I just finished the dreaded AC and am now on Abraxane for Stage 1a IDC. Developed grade 2 PPE. And one of my toenails is getting thicker and more painful than it was. Will discuss with MO (toe, he already knows about PPE, too late to lower Adria dose,) next week.
