Not sure what to think

Hey everyone -

So I’m not sure what to think after today. Five years ago, I had a mammogram, ultrasound, and a core biopsy done. It came back as a Fibroadenoma (right breast, at about the 9:00 mark). Still there, minimal changes. But a couple months ago, I noticed a new lump. This one is in the same breast, but at about the 10:30 mark, upper outer quadrant, about half an inch long and barely moveabl. Of course I get it checked out, and they send me for the diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound I had today.

My concern is that before I left the imaging location, they told me it was “just an area of dense breast tissue.” Okay. Here’s the thing. I was not told I had tense tissue five years ago. If it is just dense, it’s in a small area, it became dense suddenly, and has not changed with my cycles. I obviously have not spoken to my doctor yet about the results, but I feel like they were being dismissive. I get it - I’m only 35, no familial history that I’m aware of (my mom died when I was young)...... but I just feel.. I don’t know. I should be relieved- but I just don’t feel like that’s what’s going on.

Has anyone else dealt with anything like this?

    Post the report when you have access to it.

    =================

    I find that medical personnel often have a way of giving benign results in a very casual manner. It is meant to convey "oh don't worry about that" or "don't give that a second thought" by showing that they are not concerned about the results but I find that this is often interpreted as being dismissive, uncaring or not taking the patient seriously for whatever reason.

    If anyone is ever unsure or uneasy about a verbal report like this, they should obtain a copy of the written report, and make an appointment to discuss it in person with their doctor.
