Hi Everyone! I was diagnosed with DCIS 2 weeks ago. This is my second go-round. I had DCIS in the other breast in 2009, a mastectomy then implant, then another implant a year later (first one HURT like hell..second one was not better!)

A few weeks before my current diagnosis, I was in consultation with a plastic surgeon about getting the implant out. Then, I get the diagnosis!

So, I will be having surgery on both breasts at the same time, one side by the plastic surgeon, the other by the breast surgeon. The date is not set up yet, but it will probably be in March. Last time I did not have a good environment for recovery and didn't take optimal care of myself. I am starting my plan now to nurture my body and soul and get ready to have a good recovery. I want to start by eating cleaner, sleeping more and better, and not stressing. What other things did you do to prep for a good and healthy outcome? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Oh my goodness -- I wish that I could have your mature outlook about this. I do worry about not being healthy for surgery, but it seems that all I can do is eat Hershey bars and research my options for treatment. I do however sleep very well because I'm exhausted. I'll follow this thread since I obviously also need suggestions.

I can relate! I am a chocolate freak and I tend to "stress-eat!" What I have done so far is clean out & organize my closet so when I go to get something I will see the clothes I will be wearing after surgery first. (Loose-fitting, button-down shirts). And I put away (finally!) my summer tops, because I am not sure what kind of tops I will be able to carry off post-surgery. (I will likely need mastectomy bras). And I wrote a list for myself on Sunday night of what I am going to eat and not eat here on in. (Let's hope I can stick to it!) I also wrote a "self-care" list that includes 'worry less, laugh more,' and 'no screens after 10:30,' and 'no eating after 11 pm.'

And not a lot of time researching cancer. I tend to overdue that and then I get more anxious!

Good luck, and remember to breathe...

If possible make a sanctuary for yourself to keep stress down. I was able to relocate to my son’s bedroom in the basement and he shared a room upstairs with his brother. This also allowed me to have my own bathroom. I filled that room with lots of self care goodies.

    Favorite candles

    Fresh flowers

    Books

New pillows and a back support reclining pillow

    Bed tray

Best of healing to you! You can do it!

Thank you so much, Seattle Mom! I have a few gift cards I received at Christmas and plan to go out today and start to create that sanctuary.

Thanks for your reply and kind words. We're all in this together!

    Jeanie
