Swimsuit help PLEASE
My 73 yr old mom just had a mastectomy on her right side only and I would love to find her a swimsuit so she can continue to be active in the pool any and all advice welcome. She wants a one piece with a skirt which seems to be a hard task to find ( she’s not plus size/ size 8 or 10)..., thank you so much

Hi Foeltz and welcome to our community,
Have you looked at Lands End? https://www.landsend.com/shop/womens-swimsuits/-/N...
Also, check out here: https://www.swimoutlet.com/post-mastectomy-swimwea...
We hope these could be helpful, but hopefully others chime in.
Warmly,

I have spent hours auditioning swimsuits. I have the best luck with blouson (straight across) type tops. I have several tankinis but also a one piece (with a little skirt)
Most v necks are out, there is just no way to keep them tight to the chest, especially if she uses a prosthetic.
Last year I found a couple cute high neck tankini tops at Bealls.
I suspect your mom will want to use a prosthetic on the mastectomy side. Anyone, with some simple hand sewing, can make a pocket. I have an Amoena for water but I use my micro bead one the most - easy to dry.

Check out Coolibar. They have some more modest swim options that might allow her to wear her own prosthetic and a bra or sports bra of her choice. Swim outlet also has a lot of options I think.
Don't forget you can often have a seamstress sew a pocket into a non-mastectomy item too. Hope that helps, best of luck!

Foeltz, good for you for helping your Mom get back in the water. I'm a UMX with a D cup remaining breast. I had to have my pectoral muscle out for a chest wall recurrence 9 years ago. I call it my upgrade surgery, upgrading me to a full radical. Buttonsmachine, you have something like that too, don't you?
To cover all my scars and concave chest, I wear a Penbrooke Krinkle High-Neck Mastectomy suit, and I've been happy with it. This year I'm thinking of trying a T.H.E. Mastectomy Galaxy High Neck One suit. It looks like it has a little more coverage under the arm. I usually get them online at swimoutlet.com . Hope this helps.

Hi Foeltz,
You might find the entry on my BreastFree.org website about Swimsuits helpful. In it, I provide links to a number of places that make swimsuits for women who have had mastectomies, or (even if not specifically mastectomy swimsuits) ones that can accommodate mastectomy forms:
