Lupron suggestions?

I am 29 years old, recently had a bilateral mastectomy with stage 1a IDC on the left breast, with prophylactic removal of the right breast. I am on 12 dose, weekly Taxol with Herceptin. My onc recently discussed the issue of fertility while being on the Taxol and gave me options to either freeze my eggs (which I can’t afford) or to take Lupron (which I can’t find any good or bad data on). I’m waiting for approval from my insurance for the Lupron but now I’m a second guessing myself. Any one havwe any experience with it?

I took Lupron for a year. The side effects for me were severe. I felt like I was 100 years old, migraines, etc. I eventually stopped, but I was done having my family.

There are.organizations for cancer patients that help cover.the cost.of freezing your eggs. Have you talked with the social worker at your hospital?

Ksantizo I am in the process of freezing my eggs. It is very costly but my doctor suggested some programs (for which I’ve applied) and the pharmacy gave coupons (which I’ve sent out). I started last week so I haven’t gotten any discounts yet but I’m hoping I’ll be able to get some. I did some research and there are a lot of programs that help financially. One of them is fertilitylifelines.com. I do not have any experience with Lupron yet but I have done some research and may need to take it along withTamoxifen.

My understanding is that Lupron temporarily makes your ovaries stop maturing eggs and ovulating. My oncologist told me that when an ovary is "asleep" it is less sensitive to chemical damage from the drugs used in chemo.
