One week ago Tuesday I had my Power Port installed all subcutaneously. The next day there was a good size red area beloe it and the skin was warm.(no fever) I called the doctor and she advised drawing a line around it to watch. By Thursday it was much larger so she saw me and started Augmenten. Friday I woke up and it kept growing. I was admitted to the hospital and placed on IV Vancomycin and Saline. The redness reduced and the skin was no longer feverish so I was sent home Monday with an RX for Bactrim. Monday night I began feeling a burning sensation in my bladder and only tinkled a small amount. I then drank a 16 ounce bottle of water. I woke up at 4:30 and finally peed a good amount but it still has a burning sentation and it didnt seem like enough. No fever...no pain in back. I am her2 positive with 2 cm solid tumor and after mri in hospital found a nearby 7mm round lump. Chemo Cyclophosphamide and Doxorubicin simultaneosly for 8 week regiman first biweekly. Its 5:37am and aside from a minor headache (which I get all the time) I don't feel nauseous or sick. Any one ever experience this? I am scared! Gonna go take a xanax! .5 mg

Thank you, Kimberly

Sorry you're going through this. It's very hard to tell. On one hand, yes, you can have a UTI without pain in the kidney area. On the other hand, burning sensation when peeing is a common side effect of chemo. Your best bet is to call the dr in the morning see if they can squeeze you in for a urinalysis - the results for that take half an hour tops and if it's UTI they can prescribe a targeted antibiotic. Just take all precautions for going in a dr waiting room: face mask, sanitizer for hands in your purse, etc.

Chemo often burned my bladder for a few days. Still, check in with your doctor - I'm sorry you're dealing with an infected port. Hope you feel better soon!

the burning is most likely a bladder infection. It happened to me. I thought it was the chemo, but it was a raging bladder infection. Talk to your MO.
