I am wondering if anyone else sees a chiropractor on a regular basis and continued to see them after a bone mets dx. I usually go once a month just to keep things from getting out of hand, especially my neck and shoulders. I'm nervous now with the bone mets my lower spine and pelvis.

I do believe this is really a good question to ask your oncology team and ultimately a decision for you and they to make together.

I was seeing a chiro before and at the time I was diagnosed with bone Mets and then I stopped after receiving the bone Mets diagnosis out of concern that my bones may be more fragile than I knew and that the adjustments may cause a fracture or break.

Another concern I had was that bone is tissue. Tissue is made up of living cells. Cancer cells are taking over the bone tissue. If I moved around or jostled that tissue, would I cause the cancer to metastasis more? The answer is unknown but I didn’t want to take the chance.

There are chiropractors who do work in more energetic realms and do not do the physical adjustments. One style I have experienced since my diagnosis is called BGI chiropractic work. It was incredibly gentle and I am still on the fence as to if it was physically helpful - but for certain it helped me mentally in several ways.

I am a firm believer in the power of healing touch. I have been seeing a massage therapist every two weeks who works a bit more gently than I’d prefer (this is due to oncology massage training), however, I always feel fantastic after our sessions. Good luck!!
