Uterine thickening after stopping Tamoxifen 1 year ago

Hello, my Doctor took me off Tamoxifen 1 year ago and switched me to Raloxifene. I was having trouble with uterine thickening, but biopsies always came back clear. Now a year later, my uterine lining is still thick (11mm). Is this common after stopping Tamoxifen? I thought this wouldn't still be a problem and expected the lining to thin out.

I would love an answer to this too. I’ve been on tamoxifen for almost 2 years. I have a 13mm thick uterine lining and cysts on my ovaries. I’ve been bleeding for 6 weeks . I had a D&C back in November that only helped for about a month. Right now I’m waiting to see gyno again and MO again to see if I’m getting a hysterectomy or just changing drugs. Pretty sure it’s hysterectomy. I’ve even started having some clots. I’m stopping tamoxife

A friend of mine had similar symptoms and she ended up having a hysterectomy.

    Hi,

My understanding after growing a 17 mm thick lining after 4 months on Tamoxifen was that the thickness would not go away on it's own. I don't know about those of you who still have periods though.

I was taken off Tamoxifen temporarily and had a hysterectomy as I'm post menopausal. This is not fun when you take medication to reduce the cancer risk and you get other problems that need treatment and/or surgery.

3bears, I hope you can get into your gyn soon, 6 weeks of bleeding is too long.. kimberly 62, glad your biopsies came back clear.

Raloxifene is also a SERM - like Tamoxifen. I would expect the problems with uterine lining to be the same.

I was only on Tamoxifen for three months before quitting because of SE's. They did not do any monitoring of my uterine lining. I found out that it was thickened (and I had an ovarian cyst) when I had an US for pain months after quitting it. The follow up US three months later showed further thickening as well as growth of the cyst and my GYN wanted to do a D&C. And then I had a period!

That was my first period after chemo stopped them 18 months before. An US afterwards showed the lining to be normal. And I haven't had another period in the seven months since.

Thanks Veeder14. You are so right. It’s very annoying having tohave surgery on other parts to be removed because we’ve been given a pill to protect us from cancer. I never knew how many decisions I would have to make regarding which body parts to keep.

Thanks Veeder14, It's amazing how many women deal with uterus issues after using Tamoxifen, you want to do whatever you can to prevent breast cancer, then are faced with other issues.

Michelle, I'm glad you are doing so well on Tamoxifen! I took it for 2 1/2 years and always felt good on it. If not for the uterine thickening, I would still be taking it.
