Mammogram is tomorrow and I am freaking out
Hi all. I am 39 (will be 40 in April). Two weeks ago today I did a self exam and found a lump. I immediately emailed my doctor and she called me back at 8:01 the next morning to come in for an exam. I can't really explain what it felt like but I think it was round and smooth, around the armpit of my right breast. I've never had a mammogram done. When I went in for my exam she said she felt a "little something extra". My period was due to start the next day and she said it could be a cyst but since I'm due to start getting mammograms this year she would send me for a diagnostic one, and also an ultrasound "if indicated". At first I felt better after that but now I'm thinking if she really thought it was a cyst she would have just had me wait til after my birthday?
Well now my appointment is tomorrow and I am seriously freaking out. I can't concentrate on anything and am spending the whole day at work googling-which of course is a terrible idea. I haven't really felt the lump too much because I've been afraid to. I did last night and honestly it feels completely different now. Before it felt small and perfectly round, but now its more of a grape shape, bigger and definitely feels like its stuck to something. I thought it might go away after my cycle ended but it didn't.
Thanks for reading this...just needed to get out my feelings since I haven't talked to anyone about it.

I totally feel your anxiety. All this waiting stinks! Breathe deep. I got some stuff going on and try to keep remembering that most things are benign. Hoping yours it is a cyst or a benign tumor - both very common. Keep us posted.

ladymacbeck, welcome to Breastcancer.org! As Trying2Smile say, most breast changes are not related to cancer. If it helps ease your mind, you can read more on benign breast conditions in the article What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas from our main site.
- We hope this helps, and good luck! Please, keep us posted.

you are doing the right thing by getting it checked out. Sounds like you have a caring and supportive primary doc. Let us know how it goes...

Waiting for testing and results is hard. It does sound like you have a good doctor that has responded quickly to your concerns. The mods have given you a great link, there is a lot of great information on here. Staying off google is hard, I am guilty of that too. Just be aware some of the info you find might be outdated or inaccurate. Stick with reputable sources:) All the best to you. If you feel like sharing let us know how it goes.
