Aerola is peeling

Hi

Can anyone describe their nipple-sparing recovery stages and what they personally saw as it began to heal?

My surgeon says everything that I'm going through is normal. But it is kind of freaking me out. My areola is peeling in spots and there is some blood and clear discharge from those spots. My nipple seems to be going through stages of black and hard to pink and soft.

Overall, there seems to be blood supply in the areola. Does this mean that the nipple has a blood supply as well?

Thanks for any info!

Tammy

it may partly depend on where your incisions are. Mine were around the top half of areolas and out to side about 2 inches. On the one areola I developed (after surgery about three days)what they considered a deep bruise. It turned into a black scab and eventually fell off. That area is now a little paler than the rest of areola and may or may not ever regain it’s original color. The others nipple got a thin scab on it but that flaked off and is fine. I read that there may be some seepage at nipple and areola after surgery as a normal reaction to the surgery as the body deals with the trauma. Check with you PS to be sure.

Hello. I am 6 days post op from my nipple sparing profylactic mastectomy and one nipple looks normal while the other has turned black. It doesn’t look like a bruise, it’s black....

What’s the general experience? Would I have to get it removed

if it's turned to black you may have necrosis of the nipple and you should let your doctor know right away because you might lose it
