Hi Ladies -What are you ladies doing to support your bones while on Letrazole?  Open to supplements, foods, etc. etc.

Someone in the group mentioned a "pharmaceutical food grade bone builder" - started with a "F" - not Fosomax!  Anyone know the name - I cant seem to find the thread on this.

Was it Fosteum Plus, women have had great bone regeneration taking it. I took it for one and a half years but started to have some stomach pains from it. If you read up about it there are great studies on it's success, I was sorry I could not keep taking it. It is not like Fosomax or similar drugs .

Yes Susan - that is it!! I will do some research on it.  Is it a prescribed drug and are most Dr's willing to prescribe it?

I had to educate my doctors about it, they were impressed after reading the studies and the results for the patients taking it after 1-2 years. It is such a better choice of medications to help prevent bone loss and make new bone. I ordered it directly from Transition Pharmacy, with my doctor's prescription, it is very expensive otherwise. The phone number is 866-694-2553. I talked to the lead doctor that did the research on the drug, he said that was very unusual to have the stomach problems.

You need to read the studies on Fosteum Plus, there is no evidence of Fosteum Plus having an impact on Breast Cancer. The studies of the drug clearly show that. Dr Levy, the man behind the medication, can provide you with further studies and statistics that will back that up, as he did for me. I did my research, being an R.N.,M.S before starting the medication. My MO, was also impressed with the actual studies and ordered it!

dventi…..I have so many articles written by so many scientists, most of the articles sing the praises of Genistein. My MO and RO both were impressed after reading Fosteum Plus/ Healthcare Professionals. This lengthy article described the medication backed by many scientific studies. The other articles, 1) Clinical Science Review, Soy Isoflavones and Cancer Prevention, 2) Clinical Endocrinology Metab, Breast Safety and Efficacy of Genistein Aglycone for Postmenopausal Bone Loss, 3) Science Direct, Multi-targeted therapy of cancer by genistein. Hi all, I will star twice per year Prolia injection in March for osteoporosis. Can you share your experiences with is drug? Any side effects, or timing for injection advice? These bisphosphonates scare me. I think I read too much

I was taking calcium but it really did a job on my stomach and bowels. My oncologist cut the dose in half then let me stop it altogether when she learned all the problems I was having. I still take vitamin D.

My blood test last week revealed that I was very low on potassium, so she put me on high dose of Potassium Chloride (4 tablets day 1, 2 tablets the next two days, now I'm taking one a day. Blood test next week. The nurse said it was so low that she insisted I go to the drug store and begin taking the tablets that day. If not, I would have to go to her office for an injection.

I never had low potassium. Can cancer medicine reduce potassium? I'm taking anastrozole. I've been taking high blood pressure medicine for more than a decade but never had low potassium.

Catsme and 2fun ----- I have a friend who had BC and is now on Prolia --- I think she's been on it for at least 3 years. She hasn't had any trouble with it. Another friend of mine was on fosamax for years --- it built her bone density up to where she now does not have osteoporosis. She never had any problems. I've read we shouldn't stay on fosamax longer than 3 or 5 years. I was given very large doses of Lupron when I was in my late 30's for fibroid tumor removal. When I was in my late 40's I read that the lupon can cause osteoporosis so I had a Dexa --- sure enough I had the disease. I tried Fosamax for a while, but back then you had to take the pill daily and had to wait for your coffee --- that was the worst part. Anyway, then one day I got indigestion and thought it was from the drug so quit taking it. Now I'm really old and since I never took the drug I had a recent Dexa before I start taking the pill. My spine is fine, but my hip is minus 2.7 --- so I've got some real studying to do. I'm going to take the drug and have yearly Dexa's to see how things go. Make sure you always use the same Dexa machine because I learned many years ago the results vary between facilities.
