I had 33 radiation treatments in 2011. They weren’t bad at all. I had a little burning and fatigue halfway through the treatments. I was 7 years out last August.

I had a lumpectomy and no chemo. My BC was IDC, Stage 1b, Grade 1. I took Tamoxifen for ( years.

I have read stories from ladies who suffered debilitating side effects from radiation. Several quit the treatments as a result.

I agree don’t do it now if you have serious reservations/concerns. Talk to your doctor. Hopefully he/she can allay your fears. I knew what to expect and what the risks were. I never considered not doing the treatments though especially since I dodged chemo(low Oncotype score).

Runrcrb, Edwards and Kec1972 --Thank you for your replies. I did chemo first b/c my oncotype score (22) put me in the gray area. I did not want to look back some day and say I should have... I wanted to know I did everything I could. However, had I known that Rads meant burning my breast to crisp, I may have elected otherwise. Everyone I talked to then about radiation likened it to "sun burns" and I innocently believed.. :)

Vivian, I think I’m confused...you had rads and got burned to a crisp? Oh no!

Vivian, let us know how you do. I’m due to start rads in a couple of weeks and I’m terrified at the thought. This just sucks. I’m thinking of making an appt with my BS to see if it’s truly necessary.

The most, most, most important reason for you to do what is recommended is so that you can minimize the chances of cancer EVER coming back! As sucky as treatment can be, you need to keep that goal in mind.
