I am trying to support friend who is looking into getting a surgery to help with her lymphedema, and I'm wondering how many pre-ops and post-ops other folks have gone through. We live two hours from the hospital and I'm just wondering what other people's experiences have been. So far, she has just been told that she needs to see a cardiologist FIRST. Then, she needs to have the "mapping". Then....I don't know what's next and she isn't being told how many more visits to the hospital she'll need before the actual surgery. thanks in advance for any comments!

Sorry, I have not looked into LVA (or will her procedure be lymph node transfer?) but would think that, if there is a cardiologist closer than two hours, the clinic should be able to accept a report from that person, eliminating one trip. The surgeon probably wants to be sure her heart can cope with whatever anesthesia will be used.
