I don't even know where to post this! Ha! I’m newly diagnosed and I’ve already opted for a BMX. Given my family history, it’s a no brainer. My husband is wonderful and SO supportive, but..... (yeah here it comes) he thought I was going to come home from my surgery with two new perky boobs. He didn’t understand that I’m going to come home with nothing at all. I guess that was my main reason for posting here. I meet the plastic surgeon on Wednesday, and will have a better idea of how this is going to work, but how do I prepare him? All he heard the breast surgeon say was, I’m going to go in around the nipple and that’s it. This is going to be an adjustment for him too

I gradually exposed my husband to information about why it's a gradual process, and even some pictures ahead of time, to start getting him prepared. He went with me to original consultation with PS, and for pre-op appt. too. My husband seemed to take it OK. My surgery was prophylactic, after multiple pre-cancerous biopsies, so in my case we were both just so relieved to have a chance to prevent cancer before it developed, that the reconstruction process has been fine. He's disappointed I can't feel anything over much of the breasts, but that is to be expected. One thing he (and I) have liked is that I have gone just a little bigger than my original size with my tissue expanders, so we have a little visual bonus going on. Can't wait to get the TEs out next month and get the final softer implants in.

And honestly? I should have known better! I should have known that he wouldn’t exactly understand the process. And not that he’s stupid by any means. He’s a man and a good country boy that would do anything for his wife. When it comes to this kid of stuff? He pays as little attention as possible! Ha!

I had a BMX a little over a year ago and was able to do Direct to Implant. Could that possibly an option for you? It was nice to not have a second surgery and wake up with breasts that were similar to what I had. Recovery was also easier than I had imagined.

I meet with the plastic surgeon tomorrow and will have a better idea of exactly what we're looking at. That would be wonderful if I could do something like that!
