Biopsy this Friday and running Sunday
Hi! I am a new member. I received a call before Christmas that I needed to come back for a diagnostic mammogram. Fast forward to this past Monday when I went and received a call from my OBGYN that they wanted to do a stereotactic biopsy. The earliest appointment is this Friday the 18. I am supposed to be running a half Marathon two days laterand am wondering should I expect to be in pain afterwards. I haven’t really told anyone except my husband and my mom. I am so ready to know one way or another.

I would consult your Dr. My BX was a core BX and I was a little sore and swollen for a few days, but not too bad. I think I just took OTC meds for pain. Ice packs helped. I did cause mine to bleed after I got home. I was still numb, I guess. I forgot about it and was playing ball with my dog...whoops! For me, it was harder mentally than physically. Yes, the waiting is hard. Staying busy is key. Best wishes for benign findings!

First and always ask your doc.
That being said, if there is significant movement of the breast when you run/jog it may cause bleeding from the biopsy site that soon after a biopsy. Let us know what your doc says.

As djmammo said, bleeding/bruising is a concern, although my BS only told me to avoid “jiggling" after my lumpectomies, not after biopsies. Would you consider postponing the biopsy until the following week
-
I asked the nurse who set up my appointment and she seemed like it should not be a problem, except being sore. I have small breasts so there is not a whole lot of jiggle when I run. I was just seeing if anyone had similar experiences with this. If anything I have already paid and booked my flight so this may just be a fun weekend away. I already threw my time goal out the window once I found out. I don’t really want to postpone the biopsy either because it will delay the results and I really want to get past this

Wow, I don't know. I had two biopsies and was sore after both for quite a bit. I honestly think you'd be ok with a light jog, but a half marathon is a whole lot longer.
I say this because I experienced a hematoma after one of my biopsies. That's what the advice to avoid jiggling is about. The hematoma was awfully painful.
Yeah, see what the doctor says. Make sure they know the distance you plan to run.

Hi. I am also small and I run too, but only about 5k. I was too sore to do my usual 5 after biopsy. Needed about a week off. Good luck with your test results and hope you can enjoy your weekend
-
not sure how well liked my opinion will be....but having just finished treatment... I would see when next available date for biopsy is. If it's just a matter of days, it's not going to make a difference. If it is something, which my fingers are crossed for you that it's nothing, you might be glad that you were able to enjoy that weekend, because the next year will be a whirlwind. But this being said, I know how a few days can seem like forever.
I too was extremely sore after biopsy, but each person is different. Good luck, and I hope you are able to enjoy your weekend, whichever you decide.

I was told no strenuous activity for 48 hours...increased risk of bleeding.

Thanks for your input! I definitely won’t do anything that would jeopardize my health. I am 40 years old and Ths is the first time I have had to deal with this. Hopefully the last

I hope everything comes back good for you!!

I am headed for my Biopsy tomorrow. I finally looked at my report from my diagnostic mammogram which said I had a grouping of fine Pleomorphic Calcifications in my right breast within the 12:00 region. My Bi-rads score is a 4C. I am a little anxious but will be glad to know something

I listened to my body after my biopsy and felt great this morning so I decided to run it and actually did pretty well! They told me I should be fine but to make sure I wore a good sports bra which I did and make sure there was no swelling or bleeding. The biopsy itself Friday wasn’t terrible, but they were skeptical at first that they could do it because I was thin. After some maneuvering, they managed to get the samples they needed. I should know something by Wednesday.
