hi. I am 53 y.o. f. With no family history of breast cancer. No lumps found in breasts but, because my breasts are dense the dr wants to do a biopsy. Do i really need one or are there any other options. P.s if any ones had a breast biopsy how bad is it? Thanks

I'm assuming something showed up on your mammogram? My biopsy was no big deal, they numb the area topically, then with tiny shots, then do the biopsy. I was laying sort of on my right side, semi-reclined, because the biopsy was on the outer left breast. It seems to be different for everyone, though.

Thank you very much for replying. I really appreciate it..my mammogram on the left breast was indeterminate. There is no breast cancer history in my family.but i'm still nervous to get this done. Needles + breasts ughhhh😭

Did they do an MRI? I had a biopsy for calcifications but they recommended an MRI for my dense tissue.

Dense breasts alone is not an indication for a biopsy, there must have been a finding they saw, that can be targeted by ultrasound or mammogram, that they want to biopsy. What is the impression given in your reports? Mass? Calcifications? Did you feel a mass or did a screening exam trigger the biopsy?

75% of patients who develop breast cancer have no family history.

If your biopsy will be done under ultrasound, here is a related article.
