16yr old with lump

I have a 16 year old who discovered a lump last month just below her left nipple . It appears moveable but does sometimes feel tender . I took her to the gp and he said he’s certain it’s a cyst and will try with antibiotics as it’s throbbing sometimes.. he told us to come back in the new year which we have. He said this lump does not feel like anything sinister but as it’s uncomfortable he will ref her to breast clinic as it may need aspirating. Is this common in her age group. My son had a few lumps when he was between 10 and 18. The doctor always said that the lump was due to puberty. All went away on their own. Hopefully it is something this minor for her.

that’s reassuring ... she’s only 16 so I know the chances of it being nasty is very slim . Plus the gp has said this does not feel like cancer !! He’s 58 so plenty of experience.

An ultrasound should be able to distinguish between a cyst and a breast bud.

If it is a breast bud, do not have it biopsied or removed, as if it is damaged, that breast will not develop properly.

ok thank you .. her breasts only started to develop last year so I’m pretty sure it’s hormonal. Do you see many scans with teens with the same symptoms
