Kissy72, I had LD flap reconstruction with tissue expanders placed at the same time as my BMX. There was some amount of saline placed in the TE at the time of surgery, so they removed some fluid from that side the day before my re-excision, which was 5 weeks ago. (I had the re-excision done 10 days after the BMX). I had pretty bad swelling after the re-excision, and just had the saline added back to that side today. My breast surgeon told me that I would need radiation due to the close margin, or she could remove a “wedge of tissue" to get a better margin. I opted for the re-excision and because no cancer was found, I was told radiation is not needed. I have a follow-up appointment in 6 months. My surgeon offered to refer me to a RO, but I declined at that time. After reading on these boards, I think I'm going to see the RO and see what he/she says. I just want to be sure I have done everything to avoid a recurrence, but if radiation only decreases my chance of recurrence by 1-2 percent, I'm not sure I would do that, and I'm not sure a RO would recommend it. I will be interested to hear what your plan is.
