Cost of Panel Testing
Hello all. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and had BRCA testing then, which was negative. Recently, my oncologist suggested that I get the full panel testing because of strong family history. I have an appointment with the genetic counselor to do this next week, but I am unable to get an estimate from them of how much the appointment and testing will cost. My insurance has changed to a high deductible plan, and the full cost will likely be out of pocket since it's the beginning of the year. Does anyone have a ballpark estimate of what this might cost? Many thanks!

I hope someone comes along soon with an estimate. After havingBRCA testing 7 years ago, I had the full panel this summer. Everything was negative and fully covered by my insurance. Ambry was the company that processed the test. Perhaps you could contact them for cost and they may even offer assistance in covering that cost. All the best.

My doctor sent a full panel test and my insurance denied it because it didn't come with genetic counseling. So pretty soon I should get a bill
I'll post here once I see.

Ah! I belong to an all inclusive HMO so everything from docs, to labs, pharmacies, hospitals etc. are a single system. This includes genetic counseling as they are the ones who give you the test kit (which you take to the lab for the blood draw) and speak with you once results are in. The genetic counseling is comprehensive and thorough. When I had BRCA testing done, I even had to take an online class!

Invitae billed $1500 and insurance paid $500. I did not meet with genetic counselor until much later. That was optional. Genetic Ocologist charged $585 and insurance paid $385. My Breast Surgeon ordered the genetic testing. I chose to do the follow up, it was not required
Good luck and keep us posted.

Here is the website for Ambry Genetics. They may be able to give you an idea of costs and might even offer financial assistance.

I did full panel testing through Color Genomics. It’s self pay, now $199. https://www.color.com/t/welcome?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=750180910&kw=color%20genomics&pos=1t1&mt=e&device=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhK2136TL3wIVix6tBh12OAYKEAAYASAAEgI25fD_BwE
