Options

Hello Everyone,

  • I have had 7 radiation treatments so far. Today I woke up feeling kind of out of sorts. I woke up tired and I have a head ache. Trying to tidy up my house I dont want a messy house on New Year's Eve. But unfortunately not getting much accomplished today. Has anyone else experienced this from radiaton?

Absolutely but usually fatigue occurs halfway through the treatments. Are you at the halfway mark? I had 33 treatments. My MO told me I would be fatigued and not to fight it and just rest. Other than that and a bit of redness I sailed through the treatments. Hope you do too.

Newhomes - radiation can cause fatigue. My radiation was about 12 years ago and I got fatigue at the end but only noticed it during intense exercise, it lasted a couple weeks and then just lifted and was gone. Ofcourse everyone responds to treatments differently. It if you’re tired give yourself a break and rest and do something that provides joy, relaxation, happiness. And a messy house is ok right now!

Newhomes, I had radiation during November and December and am still fatigued. I haven't thoroughly cleaned my house in two months.

The fatigue is real! Everyone is different for sure as far as onset of SE. Rest when you can, the housework will wait.

Yeah, my skin is healing after 2 1/2 weeks but I'm still kind of pooped. Besides the rads, it's just been a long, exhausting year with insufficient recovery time from one procedure to the next.

I started feeling fatigued before the halfway point too. It seems a bit better when I remember to drink tons of water, like at least 2 quarts per day.

I was still doing radiation in September when I started school in a really intense program. Remember to sleep lots, drink lots of water and eat nutrition dense foods - lots of veggies and healthy proteins. Radiation damages tissues which need to be rebuilt so I think a lot of the fatigue comes from that. I did have a whole week in December (once exams were over) where I really didn't do much of anything and I think that was definitely fatigue from everything piling up. I did keep exercising right through and I'd encourage that as well. If you can't make it to a workout, Even 30-60 minutes of walking a day make a huge difference. Hang in there, the rads will be over soon.
